WM-07 workshop proposal on Individual Knowledge Work and Social Semantic Desktop (IKWSSD 2007)

The biennial knowledge management conference „Professionelles Wissensmanagement WM 2007″–this time in Potsdam, near Berlin Germany–called for workshop proposals. This conference provides an interesting environment for researchers as well as practitioners for discussing ideas on individual knowledge work, especially with regard to the Nepomuk project.

I wrote a proposal with colleagues at DFKI, Kaiserslautern, and FU Berlin. Hopefully, it will get accepted.

Semantic Desktop and Social Semantic Collaboration Workshop @ ISWC 2006

This is one of the major dissemination acitivites among Semantic Web researchers for my current project Nepomuk – The Social Semantic Desktop. We will not only present our research and development results but learn and discuss about the state of the art of the Semantic Desktop and collaboration enhancements, in order to make it „social“.

We will not only present our research and development results but learn and discuss about the state of the art of the Semantic Desktop and collaboration enhancements, in order to make it „social“. Thus, it should not come as a surprise to find quite a few Nepomuk project members in the Program Committee (including myself). The call for papers is here.

3rd International Conference on Human Centered Processes HCP 2007

Parick Brezillon, a colleague from University of Paris with whom I did a workshop and journal issue on Modeling and Retrieval of Context, asked me to be part of Program Committe of the above mentioned conference, which I happily accepted. Being interested in context and explanation research, issues of human-machine interaction are of major interest for my research.

FGWM 2006 – Workshop and meeting of the SIG Knowledge Management

Every couple of years the special interest group Knowledge Management organizes a workshop in order to meet and discuss work in progress…. For example, at the last meeting at Humboldt University Berlin (FGWM 2004) I met a Diploma Student presenting a poster for some research work from another DFKI department in Saarbrücken.

Every couple of years the special interest group Knowledge Management organizes a workshop in order to meet and discuss work in progress. I enjoy these events especially because it is a great opportunity for networking, refreshing existing as well as building new contacts in the knowledge management community. For example, at the last meeting at Humboldt University Berlin (FGWM 2004) I met a Diploma Student presenting a poster for some research work from another DFKI department in Saarbrücken. He was at this event by chance and learned a great deal about research and research work. In the meantime he became a researcher, something he never considered before.
I would like to encourage students to consider pursueing a career in academia and to think about submitting a paper and/or to visit this event at the University of Hildesheim: FGWM 2006.

Pet Shop Boys on Tour

The Pet Shop Boys always were one of my favorite pop groups…. I will be in Boston, USA, at that time. It’s sometimes hard to be a (hard blogging) scientist.See tour schedule at the Pet Shop Boys‘ homepage.P.S.: Listen to their newest single at their homepage: „I’m with stupid“.

Finally, I decided to go to a pop concert. (Would be my first concert, mind you!) The Pet Shop Boys always were one of my favorite pop groups. Great music, great lyrics … One of their few concerts actually would be not too far away, in Bonn. Great, isn’t it? Thought so, too. Until I had a closer look at the date.
